Alternative power

In the past few years, an active work is underway, aimed at reducing natural gas consumption of local fuels. Thus, 395 boiler rooms of budget and utilities sectors were switched, in general, since 2010, the dynamics of their increase over the past three and a half years you can see in the presented chart.  365 boiler rooms are belonging to the public sector, 30 boiler rooms are belonging to the heating companies.

Industry is not far behind in this area. Examples of positive use of alternative fuels for output of heat is boiler room on the sunflower husk PJSC "Vinnitsa Oil and Fat Plant", it is the boiler room that runs on the waste of woodworking industry of "Barlinek", and also the dryers of grain that use the straw as fuel, the amount of these objects is growing in the region and now is more than 10 units.

It should be noted that the implementation of large-scale energy efficiency projects often is realized in collaboration with our foreign partners who are willing to provide financial and technical support. Examples include the arranging in solid domestic waste landfill (Stadnytsia, Vinnitsa region), the wells of the selection and installing of the landfill gas cogeneration facility that uses fuel as landfill gas. This facility can generate 1 megawatt of electricity per hour. In this case, 1.2 megawatts of thermal energy is producing. The works are done at the expense of the joint Ukrainian-German enterprise "AEU ENERGO» (the representative of "HAASE" in Ukraine) and public enterprise "EkoVin", the funding of the project is 1.6 million euro. Realization of the project has reduced the CO2 emissions by 4.5 thousand tons annually, to provide electricity output only for the first half of 2016 for 1.7 mln.kVt. per year, to solve the problem of spontaneous combustion of landfill, and to get additional funds for maintenance and further to the reclamation of landfill waste.

   

   

In June 2016, the first solid-fuel boiler room was launched in Vinnitsa that runs on wood cod. Its capacity is 5.2 MW. It is situated on the Bazhenov Street, 15a; it was built as a part of the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Swiss Confederation. The total cost of the facility is 3 million CHF; according to the Memorandum, Ukrainian side invested 27 million UAH to the construction. The created boiler room will allow to save around 5.2 million cubic meters of gas a year, and to reduce CO2 emissions by 9.9 thousand tons per year. In the summer period, the boiler room will provide the residents of the neighbourhood with the hot water that is 48 houses, 1 school and 2 kindergartens. The gas boilers VIESSMANN   with a capacity of 6 MW each will be launched in the heating season to provide additional heat. Together with the installation of the boiler equipment, the replacement heating systems took place, stretching over 9 kilometres of establishing of 100 individual heating units with electronic control system SCADA and heat meters.

  

As for the branch of renewable energy of the region, it is worth noting that currently 21 solar (photovoltaic) power stations with total capacity of 51.69 MW operates in the region. 19 small hydropower stations with the capacity of 21.07 MW are installed in the region. The most powerful of these generating facilities are photovoltaic power station "Praymvud" in Sharhorod district with the capacity of 8 MW and the Ladyzhyn hydroelectric station with the capacity of 9 MW.

  

On the schedule of the electric power generation facilities for renewable energy in Vinnitsa region since 2012 and the first half of 2016, we can see that the facilities of renewable energy are producing in total over 100 million kW. hours per year.

 

 

In the next schedule it is viewed a clear  trend towards increasing the number of power generating stations, and as a result, the volume of electric energy, especially electricity generating facilities that use the energy of sunlight, the number of which has increased from 5 units in 2012, to 21 units in 2016.


By 2019, 11 new small hydropower stations with installed capacity of 1.34 MW are planned to put into operation. However, there are 9 not operating small hydroelectric power stations in the region, which can be restored and to establish electricity by "green" tariff.
